If you have never been on a motorcycle going through the forests, mountains, countryside, or along the banks of rivers and creeks, then you might not understand what I'm about to say. I get more out of riding than any church service I've ever been to. now, having said that I can get on with it.
the very best part of the ride was really before it got started. we stopped at Arby's for lunch and when we pulled up a little girl, probably about 10 years old, with down syndrome came out of the building. she saw the bikes and her eyes lit up. she kept saying "cool bike". so I motioned her over so she could get a good look at them. she was so elated. she never really got close enough to touch them but she was so happy just to see them. her dad (or grandfather) was just beeming. he was very appreciative that we would take the time to let her look.
the ride up through ocoee was spectacular as always. the other couple had never riden through there and would have liked to stop and take pictures but mark didn't realize that. plus it must have been the "last hoorah" for rafting the Ocoee. there were people everywhere!
we rode on up through the Nantahala then to cherokee. steve and kristy had never been in a casino. and of all weekends to go, i have never been to a more crowded casino, not even in vegas. it was miserable. all the good tables were taken, the smoke was deeper than in any bar (or a least when you used to could smoke in a bar). Kristy was not having any fun at all, therefore I wasn't having any fun. i was trying to hurry up and blow all my money so we could get to the buffet. that didn't go well for them. they stood in line for 30 minutes just to get to the good stuff on the salad bar. mark and i skipped the salad and went straight for the main course. we were on dessert by the time they got to the table.
mark and i went ahead and hit some more machines while they were eating. by the time we found them, steve was ready to try his luck, but mark had mentioned we were done so we just left. by this time all the touristy shops were closing. so at that point all that was left to do was go back to the hotel. mark and i watched the end of the race and i fell asleep because we were meeting at 8 to head back home. i couldn't see the clock and i kept checking my cell phone. i was afraid the alarm wouldn't go off and I'd over sleep. (breakfast in the lobby was great because i had a bagel with cream cheese and peanut butter, yum, and some froot loops, double yum)
the ride back was beautiful. i had never been on that parkway, that I can remember. we stopped along the way at most of the "photo op" locations. these weren't really the best places for photo ops as the vegatation was too high to see the mountains. but we made the best of those stops and got some really great pictures. there was one stop that was full of beautiful wild flowers and the butterflies were just buzzing everywhere!
i thought i had forgotten my sunscreen. dumbass me put it in a side pocket so I didn't see it. needless to say after 8 hours on the bike, my face was fried. i was miserable. still am today, my lip feels like it's on fire.
all in all i'd rate the ride a 4. if mark and i had been by ourselves it'd have been a 12! he and i do so well just by ourselves.
